| LEARNING STYLES Different children have different learning styles, meaning that they learn best when material is delivered in a particular way. Some students are auditory learners; they learn best hearing information. Visual learners do best when seeing information. Kinesthetic learners learn by doing; they are “hands on” kids. Your child may be one type of learner or any combination of the three. Problems may arise when children are unaware of their own learning style, which usually means they lack the strategies they need to best absorb lessons and complete assignments without frustration, anxiety, or confusion. On a daily basis, students are presented with a great deal of information delivered in a variety of ways, such as lectures, notes on the board, information in text books, internet sources, etc. In order to take this information in effectively, it helps to understand your learning style and how best to work with it. Savvy Students tutors work with your child to identify his or her individual learning style. We then tailor our style of tutoring to your child’s strengths. We are able to adapt information that comes home from school to a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic format so your child can best succeed. During our sessions, we may focus on teaching the proper use of flash cards, graphic organizers, and color differentiation for a visual learner. For auditory learners, we may teach your child how to use audio books, storytelling, and voice recording to help them in many subject areas. For the kinesthetic learner, your tutor will design hands on activities and demonstrate skills and technique alongside your child as he or she performs the tasks his or herself. Whatever your child’s learning style, Savvy Students tutors are trained to be able to identify it, work with it, and help your child build confidence in not just what is learned, but how it is learned. |
